Longcase Clocks	A fine quality small size English late Victorian mahogany 8-day triple weight driven quarter striking on 8-bells grandmother clock (Regulator) by Commander, Leamington with dead-beat escapement and maintaining power, the substantial mahogany and boxwood inlayed case, inlayed with baskets of flowers and foliage to the rectangular door and base, the 8-day quarter striking 8-bell movement with striking for Whittington / Westminster chimes on 4 or 8 bells with tune selection lever to the top left dial and strike / silent to the top right dial, the triple weight driven movement with dead-beat escapement, maintaining power and subsidiary seconds, the three original weights and ebony wood rod pendulum, the brass dial with and silvered engraved centre, subsidiary seconds, signed silvered chapter ring, brass spandrels and a very finely engraved oval plaque to the break-arch engraved with Ann Hathaway’s Cottage, circa 1890. 68” x 13” x 10”

Swedish Wall Clocks	A large size Swedish Gustavian Louis XVI style gilt wood late 19th century cartel wall clock retailed by Robert Engstrom, Stockholm, the very fine gilt wood Gustavian style water gilded and hand burnished case with trailing ribbons to the sides, surmounted by an urn to the top, the fine quality German 8-day rectangular shaped late 19th movement chiming the hours and half hours on a top mounted bell, the signed 10 - inch convex white painted dial with black Arabic numerals contained within a finely fitting gilt brass bezel with a convex glass, the finely fretted gilt pierced brass hands in the form of foliage, circa 1890-1900, Robert Engström was born in 1864 and died in 1926. A well-known clockmaker in Stockholm, he specialised in gilt wood wall clocks in both Gustavian and Empire styles. He received the Royal Warrant to Her Majesty Queen Victoria in Sweden in 1910. he made a number of clocks for various Royal Palaces and made a major clock for the Tammerfors Museum in Finland. 36” x 18” x 6”

A Cuckoo Clock is a clock, typically pendulum driven, that strikes the hours using small bellows and whistles that imitate the call of the Common Cuckoo in addition to striking a wire gong. The mechanism to produce the cuckoo call was installed in almost every kind of Cuckoo Clock since the middle of the eighteenth century and has remained almost without variation until the present.

The design of Cuckoo Clocks is now conventional. Most are made in the shape of a rustic birdhouse or chalet to hang on a wall. The Cuckoo Clocks wooden case is frequently decorated with carved leaves and animal heads. Most now have an automaton of the Cuckoo Clocks bird that appears through a small trap door while the clock is striking. The bird is often made to move while the clock strikes, typically by means of an arm that lifts the back of the carving. There are two kind of movement: a one-day movement and an eight-day movement. Some have musical Cuckoo Clocks movements, and play a tune on a swiss music box after striking the hours and/or half-hours. Musical Cuckoo Clocks frequently have other automata which move when the music box plays. Cuckoo clocks are almost always weight driven; a Cuckoo Clocks very few are spring driven. The weights are made of cast iron in a pine cone shape.
