A very fine quality 1720’s English 18th century George II
burr walnut longcase clock by William Barrow, London, the well proportioned
burr walnut case of good colour, the burr walnut long type trunk door with
bordering walnut banding, the caddy type hood with fret work to the front
surmounted by three gilt wood finials, the hood with full length hood
columns and polished brass capitals, the 8-day weight driven 4-pillar
movement with rack striking, the 12 inch brass dial with matted centre
engraved with birds, cherub and dolphin type spandrels, subsidiary seconds,
date box window and convex silvered name plate in the break arch, circa
1720, this clock has been in the same family until now and this maker has
three longcase clocks in the national museum of Stockholm. |
