A German Month Going Fine And Interesting 19th Century Walnut Floor-Standing Regulator With Calendar Dial
The case with moulded cornice over canted front angles and three long glazed panels, the base of good figuring and set with a hinged door to the front, the backboard of similarly lively figuring and mounted with a heavy shaped brass bracket to support the pendulum and the movement, the case with opening door to the base, the 11.5inch circular dial with heavy cast brass bezel enclosing the Roman enamel chapter ring and finely engraved centre decorated in the 17th century manner with interlaced, flowing foliage, set with three large silvered subsidiary dials and four apertures, the subsidiaries with Latin inscriptions for month, date and age of the moon, the apertures showing the season, sign of the Zodiac, current quarter of the day (morning, noon, evening and night time) and reigning Deity, the weight driven movement wound from the lower right hand side and of very substantial construction with large turned pillars uniting the heavy square plates, with maintaining power to the jewelled pin wheel escapement and mercury jar pendulum, the wheels of five crossings and with high-count pinions, the intricate calendar and zodiacal work mounted between circular plates mounted directly behind the dial centre Size: 2.14m (7ft) high.
