A very original oak English 30 hour longcase by Jno Hough, Knutsford with complete history of ownership from day one on inside of front door, the very original lovely coloured hand sawn thick cut oak case with a long rectangular door edged with a typical 1740's round bold edge moulding similarly to base, the rectangular shaped hood with reeded rectangular front and rear hood columns with glazed hood side panels revealing the mechanism, the top surmounted by a break-arch, the outstanding English 30 hour movement by Jno Hough with four very finely made ringed pillars, countwheel striking for the hour on a substantially large bell, the signed 11-inch square brass dial with matted centre and date aperture with silvered chapter ring and spandrels, circa 1740, the clock was the former property of the Rev Joseph Eaton M.A
(Precentor Chester Cathedral & Rector St Michael's 1796, Died 1850). It was then given to Mr Henry Taylor on his marriage 1878 as a present from his late partner Mr George Boydell from the office of Pepper Street. Jno Hough is listed as having worked in Knutsford as a clockmaker 1740 84" x 18" x 11"
