A French late 18th century Ormolu Directoire mantel clock with original mercury gilding, the clock case is held behind a gilt support frame and surmounted by satin gilt mount in the form of trailing foliage and ribbons, the frame is supported by two gilt burnished arched frames resting on four cylindrical supports sitting on a white carrera base with engine turned bun feet, the rounded white enamel chapter ring with black Roman numerals, the open dial centre reveals the motion work of the clock and the gilt hands are pierced and chased, the eight day movement strikes on a bell and the sunburst pendulum is silk suspended, circa 1795
