A magnificent late 19th century/early 20th century French industrial clock
of a steam engine emerging from a tunnel, the case is constructed of gilt,
silvered and patinated bronze with rouge marble for the base and top, the
brickwork at the mouth of the tunnel is faithfully copied as is the detail
on the train itself, the case with individual bolt heads are shown, the
railway line, the buffers and the carriage hitching hook, the dial is
silvered with a gilt centre and has blued steel hands and Arabic numerals,
to each side of the dial are subsidiary dials for temperature, the one on
the left for Celsius and the one on the right for Fahrenheit, the 8-day
movement striking the hours and half hours on a bell with the original
silvered English platform escapement, circa 1890-1900
