A French first empire mantle clock in the manner of the gods, heroes and
muses with Camillus, the gilt bronze figural case shows Camillus in his
Roman warrior uniform, his hand raised above his laurel wreathes and
shield inscribed Amour, Alaplus, Belle, the French 14-day movement with
count-wheel striking, striking the hours and half hours on a bell, the
gilt bronze convex dial with black Roman numerals and blued steel
Breguet hands, circa 1800-1810, the clock is part of a series of art
works, which glorified Roman history and heroes in monument style
compositions and integrated them into the actual political scene.
