A large size Swedish Gustavian style gilt wood late 19th century cartel wall
clock, the very fine gilt wood Gustavian style water gilded and hand
burnished case with draping gilt mounted foliage swags to the sides,
surmounted by a urn with hanging gilt ribbons, the case signed with Robert
Engstom’s stamp, the fine quality German 8-day rectangular shaped late 19th
movement by Lenzkirch stamped 1-million chiming the hours and half hours on
a top mounted bell, the signed 9- inch convex white painted dial with black
Arabic numerals contained within a finely fitting gilt brass bezel with a
convex glass, the finely fretted gilt pierced brass hands in the form of
foliage, circa 1880-90, Robert Engström was born in 1864 and died in 1926. A
well-known clockmaker in Stockholm, he specialised in gilt wood wall clocks
in both Gustavian and Empire styles. He received the Royal Warrant to Her
Majesty Queen Victoria in Sweden in 1910. he made a number of clocks for
various Royal Palaces and made a major clock for the Tammerfors Museum in
