A Large Size Swedish Gustavian Louis XVI Style Gilt Wood Late 19th Century Cartel Wall Clock Retailed By Robert Engstrom, Stockholm, the very fine gilt wood gustavian style water gilded and hand burnished case with trailing ribbons to the sides, surmounted by an urn to the top, the fine quality german 8-day rectangular shaped late 19th movement chiming the hours and half hours on a top mounted bell, the signed 10 - inch convex white painted dial with black arabic numerals contained within a finely fitting polished brass bezel with a convex glass, the finely fretted gilt pierced brass hands in the form of foliage, circa 1890-1900, Robert Engström was born in 1864 and died in 1926. A well-known clockmaker in Stockholm, he specialised in gilt wood wall clocks in both gustavian and empire styles. He received the royal warrant to her majesty queen Victoria in sweden in 1910. He made a number of clocks for various royal palaces and made a major clock for the tammerfors museum in Finland. Size: 36” x 17” x 6”.
